When Should You Replace Your Air Conditioner?
When properly Maintained, most central air conditioning systems last 10 to 15 years. If your AC is over 10 years old, it may be time to consider a new model.
New Air Conditioners are far more Efficient than older models and have advanced features that make it easier to control your home’s comfort level.
Many homeowners report that their new TRANE Air Conditioner paid for itself over time because its Energy Efficient operation lowered their home energy bills
Additional signs it’s time to consider a new AC system include:
Frequent breakdowns: If your air conditioner needs frequent repairs and the costs are increasing, investing in a new unit might be more economical.
Increasing energy bills: Older air conditioners tend to become less energy-efficient over time, leading to higher energy bills. If you notice a significant increase in your cooling costs, it could be a sign that your AC is struggling to keep up and needs to be replaced.
R-22 refrigerant: If your air conditioner uses R-22 refrigerant, you may want to consider a replacement. R-22 refrigerant is being phased out due to its harmful environmental impact

How can I make my air conditioner last longer?
To get the most life out of your AC unit, keep it well-maintained. Routine maintenance checks, particularly at the start of the cooling season, will help extend its lifespan. Repairing issues when they first arise will also extend the lifespan of your system.
How Do I Know If I Need a New Furnace?
Sometimes it’s hard to tell if your furnace needs to be repaired or replaced. When deciding, consider these factors:
Is your furnace more than 15 years old? Older furnaces are typically less Efficient and may be inflating your utility bills
Home energy costs increased? When your furnace is no longer able to run Efficiently it has to work harder to produce heat—and that can cause your heating bill to skyrocket
Is your furnace repair estimate $500 or more? Replacing your old furnace with a new, Efficient model is likely a better investment
A Pender Heating and Air Conditioning tech can help you consider your options and make the best decision for you
Why Choose an Energy-Efficient Furnace?
Every furnace has an Annual Fuel Utilization Efficiency (AFUE) rating. The AFUE is calculated by dividing how efficiently the furnace generates heat by the amount of fossil fuel it uses annually. So if a furnace is rated AFUE 80, that means that 80 percent of the furnace’s fuel becomes heat while 20 percent is burned off and vented out of the home.
Gas furnaces installed pre-1990s can have significantly lower AFUE ratings than today’s models. If you have an older furnace, 35 percent or more of the fuel it uses may not be converting into heat.
Your Pender Heating & Air Conditioning tech can help you determine which furnace is right for your home by taking into consideration the size of your home, your family’s comfort needs, and other factors.
